Dear Parent / Carer
Three weeks into term already!
You may be aware that Miss Jones has unfortunately been ill over the last week.  We wish her a speedy recovery.  During her absence, I aim to ensure that the same supply staff are used as much as is possible so that stability is maintained for the children.   As we now know that Miss Jones will be absent this week, we will endeavour to sort out any reading books, spelling and homework as may be necessary.
Following a review of the school grounds, I have arranged for a new fence and gate to be installed across the bottom of the junior yard.  This should be installed over the next 2 or 3 weeks.  When all the children have been dropped off to school, the gate in this fence will locked, as well as the double gate at the rear of the school (to the staff car park) and the single gates along the back wall.  This will ensure the children remain safe in school, especially during break and lunch times.  Any adults who require access to the school will need to come around to the front of the building and enter through our reception area.
The gates will be re-opened at about 3.10pm in readiness for children leaving at the end of the school day.
We are working hard at school at the moment preparing for the visit of the school inspection team.  As previously advised, they are due to visit the school on the 7th and 8th October.  As this is a re-visit there will be no meeting planned for the inspectors to meet parents.   They will work with school staff to establish the progress made to the Post Inspection Action Plan and report their findings in a written report in the usual ways.
Just to remind you about upcoming dates to discuss any further issues you may have with school leaders.
24th September 2014 - 3.30pm
20th and 21st October  throughout Parents’ Evenings
Attendance will remain a priority throughout the year.  Parents are reminded that it is essential that their children attend school as often as possible.  The guidelines from the Local Authority have become more rigorous this year, and our school policies will be updated in readiness for the Spring Term 2015.  However, we have needed to make some immediate changes, as you are aware, and all holiday requests will be unauthorised – in line with Local Authority advice.  We ask that you still inform the school of your wish to take a holiday in term time, using the school forms or a letter from yourselves, so that we can keep our records up-to-date.
Only by working together can we achieve our aims
Thanks for your continued support

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Our School council pupils have been very  busy planning and preparing a coffee morning for Friday to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Appeal.
They have asked pupils to wear their own clothes on Friday and to bring in £1 as a forfeit. The pupils liked this idea!!

Donating Cakes
We would be very grateful if you could make/buy some cakes for this event. If you are able to donate, then please sent them in with your child on THURSDAY. Diolch!!!

Invitation
You should have all received an invitation by now. You are invited to attend the coffee morning for a relaxing chat at 9.15am Friday.

Bring your spare change!

We look forward to seeing you all!!

Dear Parents / Carers
START OF THE SCHOOL DAY
As previously mentioned, parents are reminded that children should not be brought to school before 8.50am.  This is to ensure the safety of all children and adults on the site.
Children who attend Breakfast Club use the yard before this time under the supervision of supervisory staff.  At 8.50am, these children then enter the classrooms under the supervision of teaching staff.  If parents with other children arrive on site before 8.50am, it makes the supervision and safety of the Breakfast Club children difficult to ensure.
Thank you for your cooperation
Only by working together can we achieve our aims

11TH September

Dear Parent / Carer
Last night’s meeting was well attended and it was lovely to meet so many of you.  As explained at the meeting, the appointments of both Mrs Pugh and myself are permanent, with effect from 1st September 2014.  This will help ensure that a more consistent approach to communication with parents can be developed.   A number of issues were raised at the meeting – please be assured that we will work to investigate and rectify any issues.
We have also received notification that Estyn will be re-visiting the school on 7th and 8th October.  There will be no meeting arranged for parents to meet Estyn Inspectors as this is a re-visit.  The results of the re-visit will be shared with parents as soon as we are able.
Also, and as discussed, the school will endeavour to continue to keep parents as up-to-date as possible with developments at school.  If you have any problems, we have an open-door policy at school.  However, if a concern is a little more complex it may be more helpful to make an appointment to see me, where issues can be discussed in more detail.  Families are reminded that a number of dates were set in the diary where members of the school’s leadership will be available to parents/carers on a monthly basis to make sure that there are opportunities for you to raise concerns as they arise.
24th September 2014     3.30pm
20th and 21st October      throughout Parents’ Evenings
20th November 2014       4.00pm
15th December 2014        3.30pm
A number of extra dates have been added to the diary.  These new dates will be found on the Moodle.  For your information, the proposed trip to the Pantomime will now be in January, as there are no places available at the end of December.  Details will follow.
A number of documents below have not yet been returned to school.  It is essential that we hold these documents so that we can ensure our records are kept fully up-to-date.
  • Home/school agreement (if not currently held in school)
  • Internet use / email use permission slips
  • Photograph authority slips
  • Authorisation for visits to the locality
Arriving at school:  Parents are reminded that children should not be on the school premises until 8.50am – 10 minutes before the start of the day.  This ensures staff are available to receive the children and provide adequate supervision in classes and helps ensure children who attend Breakfast Club are supervised effectively.
Children who need to leave during the school day:  Any children who need to leave before the end of the day – whether they are leaving early, have a medical appointment or for any other reasons – MUST be signed out, using the register at the office.  This enables the school to maintain an accurate record of who is on the premises or not.  This is particularly important for the security of the children and our Fire Procedures.
PARKING: Parking is an issue at almost every school in RCT!  Parents are again reminded that there should be NO PARKING on the zig-zag lines at the back of the school.  Please also consider our neighbours and avoid parking across their driveways.  Access to the school via Coedpenmaen Close should also only be used on rare occasions.  Parents are advised to use the rear of the school where possible.
KIDS EAT FREE AT Frankie and Benny’s - 13th and 14th September and Free breakfast on – 15th September. All that is required is a donation to Caudwell Children who ‘provide family support services, equipment, treatment and therapies for disabled children and their families.
Only by working together can we achieve our aims.

2nd September 2014

Dear Parent / Carer

Welcome to the new term at Coedpenmaen!  We hope you had a good Summer and that the children are refreshed and ready for the challenges that lie ahead in their new classes.

As you are aware, the school has appointed myself, Mrs Jeannette Loveridge, as headteacher and Mrs Michelle Pugh as Deputy Headteacher.  We know that the school has been through a period of instability over recent years and that the leadership has changed on a number of occasions.  As both these appointments are permanent positions, this instability has now been addressed.  However, we are aware that you, as parents and key ‘stakeholders’ in the school, may wish to find out a little more about us!!  As a result, a meeting has been arranged for 10th September at 3.30pm to give you an opportunity to meet us.  We hope you will be able to attend.

Please ensure these are returned to school promptly so that our records can be kept fully up-to-date.

Your child will also receive a letter from their class teacher.  This will detail the learning and activities they should be accessing through the ‘theme’ they are studying over the next 6 week period.  If you have any skills you would like to share with your child’s class to support the planned activities, please contact the class teacher.

PARKING: Parents are reminded that there should be NO PARKING on the zig-zag lines at the back of the school.  Please also consider our neighbours and avoid parking across their driveways.

New staff: We are pleased to inform parents that Miss Nicola Robinson will be joining the teaching team on a full time basis– teaching Year 3 with Miss Sarah Jones.  We wish Mrs Amphlett all the best for her future.

Myself, Mrs Pugh and all the rest of the staff are looking forward to the year ahead, and with your continued support, I am sure that the children will continue to achieve well and develop their confidence, becoming valued members of our school community.

Yours

HEADTEACHER'S WELCOME

Croeso - Welcome to Coedpenmaen Primary.
At Coedpenmaen, we work together to be an active and valuable part of the local community.  From Parents and Toddlers to visits to Aspen House Nursing Home; from Choir to Craft Club; from Peer Mediation to Rugby; from visits to Ponty Park to London's West End!  Our school is a very busy place!! Breakfast Club starts at 8:10am to JAK's Club until 6pm.
Parents, neighbours, governors, staff and of course the children, are all welcome to play an active role in the wider life of the school.
To keep up to date with all that's happening, sign up for email updates, or our parents' texting service - call to the school office for details.  We're now developing the potential of this Blog communication, and to find new opportunities for our children's learning.
If you have suggestions for information you would like to see, or ideas for how to develop our site, please email them to me at head.cpm@rctednet.net.
Thank you,
Mrs Loveridge - Headteacher
