PARENTS' SURVEY - APRIL 2016

Dear Parent / Carer
***IF YOU MISSED THE QUESTIONNAIRES DURING PARENTS' EVENING, PLEASE ASK FOR ONE FROM THE CLASS TEACHER***

Thank you to all the families who completed questionnaires at our recent Parents’ Evenings, a graph of the results is on the back of this newsletter.   We also ask the children for their opinions of the school – and again their results will be found on the reverse.

As usual, we review the results and use this information to work towards continuous improvements at school.   It was extremely pleasing to note that, when compared to last year’s questionnaire, the following has been recognised this year:

‘The School Promotes and Achieves High Standards’
2014/15:  94.4%   2015/16: 97.73%
The school works hard to support every child to achieve to the best of their ability.   We have developed our support work and now offer an extensive range of interventions for literacy and numeracy, as well as supporting pupils’ wellbeing.   Staff are challenged on a regular basis to encourage teaching and learning at the highest levels to secure the best results for your children.

“Pupils are treated fairly and equally’
2014/15:  82.67%   2015/16: 93.34%
This has shown the greatest amount of progress since our survey last year.  Our school motto is ‘Caring, Learning and Achieving Together’ and so school staff work to develop the caring ethos across the school to secure a happy environment for your children on a daily basis.   We will continue to develop this further.

‘Good range of activities including trips and extra-curricular’
2014/15:  95.24%   2015/16: 97.78%
We plan educational trips regularly for your children to develop their learning – as we believe that this is an invaluable aspect of the learning process.  We have also developed more after school clubs and especially look for opportunities for younger children.   Older children have benefitted from football, rugby, hockey and netball, whilst younger Key Stage 2 pupils have been able to access Science Club and ‘Beat Ball’.  We also ensure ‘social’ trips are available e.g. visits to see Santa in Nursery and Reception, theatre visits to watch the Pantomime as well as Summer visits.  We are continually looking to see how this can be developed further, and are planning a family six week ‘cooking club’ in the near future.   Please let me know if you are interested.

‘I know who to contact if I have a concern’
2014/15:  93.7%   2015/16: 97.78%
This is especially pleasing.  We have worked hard at school to ensure we have an ‘open-door’ policy.   As usual, if you have a concern about your child the first point of contact will be your child’s class teacher.  If this contact does not then answer your concerns, please pop to the office where I will see you if I am available, or it may be appropriate to make an appointment.  I am also available during the parents’ evenings.

As with all surveys, there are also a number of areas where you as parents would like to see some improvements.  These will be reviewed and added to school development planning.   Some key points raised from the survey concern:

Car Parking:
Unfortunately this relies very much on parents’ understanding of the dangers they pose to other pedestrians/drivers when parking on yellow zigzags, or parking up on the pavements.  The school contacts local PCSOs to support us in securing a safe passage to and from school.  We will also investigate other avenues to establish how we can make local roads safer.  Remember, the school is currently taking part in the Beat the Street scheme.  Walking to school will help get you and your child out and about, as well as gain points for the school in this local competition, and make the local roads safer for our pupils.   We are currently 19th out of 90 groups who have registered.

Notice of Upcoming events:
We have benefitted from a number of events which have been offered to us at short notice.  We apologise for the short notice at these times, but believe that the opportunities offered were beneficial to the children.   We communicate with parents in a number of ways – pupil post, newsletters, text messages, Twitter, Moodle, Blog and Class Dojo and will continue to work to ensure families receive good notice of school events.

I look forward to continuing to work with you so that we can ensure the children benefit from all that our school has to offer.
Yours,

Mrs J Loveridge
